Have boxes of tapes I need to capture, but not enough money to purchase the hard drives needed. But how would you go about modeling your favorite movie character? What about an animal, monster or a D&D miniature? Or even something as simple as adding a dent to model to make it look worn out? Modeling something like that in CAD software would be a total nightmare and traditional polygon modeling is just slightly less awkward tool for something like that. What I need is two years of free time and about $100,000 in grants to focus on this project, travel to the places I still need to visit (there are many), and put everything together. I’m only halfway through blogging about my trip of Colorado mining towns in 2012. I took a group of students on a tour of Nevada mining towns last year. But I keep filling in pieces, such as the tour of Adonis Bronze I reported on in my last post, and research of other ancient art forms. My need to earn a living as a science and technology teacher has kept me too busy to do much more than write a few blog posts now and then. I have not given up on creating a series of videos, posters, a book, and other materials for this Elements Unearthed project. I set the models into Bryce, added a marble texture and skies, and created a simple camera orbit animation so that renders could be easily created from different sides. I wanted to start using all these materials now, so when my students created the large timeline banner on atomic theory, I made the banner cover all the history of chemistry and included many 3D images, illustrations, and photos of books from the Chemical Heritage Foundation.Īnother view of Heraclitus. I knew it would take some time to transcribe and edit the interviews, and that I would have to recreate my original animations (they were designed for SD video six years ago and I now want to do this video in HD) and revise and re-record the narrations. Graham’s interview footage, I will have enough materials. I’ve gradually been building up these projects so that when I do the final editing of the video segments and include Dr. I also have my pen-and-ink illustrations using homemade ink as well as homemade watercolors. I have a watercolor painting I did several years ago called The Elusive Atom that included many of these philosophers, and I’ve used Adobe Photoshop to isolate the philosophers from the background. One of the many projects I’m trying to finish up this summer is to complete all these animations along with hand-drawn illustrations of the philosophers. This would require modeling the inside of the mouths, including tongue and teeth, and wound up being too much of a challenge for my beginning 3D students. We also hoped to add morph targets and bones and animate the heads talking through quotes of the philosophers. Our purpose was to create a series of images and animations to use as B-roll in the final videos. The students used Make Human to create the basic head, then imported it into Sculptris to form the hair and beard around it, then took the pieces into Daz3D Bryce for final assembly, texturing, and rendering. We also used a new program I found called Make Human, which allowed a basic human figure to be morphed into whatever shape we wanted. I had them use illustrations and sculptures of the philosophers to create torsos in 3D. Meanwhile, my 3D modeling students were learning how to use basic character design software such as Sculptris by Pixologic. He is often shown as the Weeping Philosopher, saddened by the folly and impermanence of the world. But I was back in Utah by then with no available experts around that I knew of.ģD image of Heraclitus. I needed to interview an expert to provide primary footage, using my narration only to stitch it all together. But there the project stalled out, because all I had was my own voice talking with B-roll footage over the top. Over the next year, in between working on other projects, I recorded narration and put together timeline sequences in my video software for the three segments. I wrote a script and created various animations to use for a three-part video about the philosophers and their theories. One of the major areas I researched was the history of Greek philosophies regarding matter, fundamental materials, and the nature of reality. I’ve previously written about my experiences there in this blog. This image was modeled by Cameron Larson.ĭuring the summer of 2009, I fulfilled a research fellowship at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia. A 3D model of the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, where Heraclitus lived.

Specifically, I was able to get novel titles but unable to get novel summaries. I used the Wikidata SPARQL service and was able to get some queries working, but it seems like Wikidata only deals with metadata and relationships. I could probably get this working but it would take a lot of effort and there seemed like better ways. I had to run wikiextractor inside Docker because there are known issues with Windows, and then wikiextractor failed because there is a problem with the -html flag. This is a heavy-handed method of achieving what I want, but I gave it a try and failed. This repo downloads the pages-articles dump, expands it using wikiextractor, then scans each article and saves the contents of each section whose title contains "plot". It would be nice if I could avoid manual parsing and could get just issue a single query. I briefly tried a few things that didn't work, and need some clarification on what I'm missing and where to direct my efforts. I'm only looking for a few (~100) and the source of the plots doesn't matter, e.g. I want to extract story plots from the English Wikipedia. Can't afford to use very computationally expensive procedures.Īnybody know of the best way to approach this? Would greatly appreciate any advice or assistance you can provide. Thanks! I'm also constrained by the fact that my scene has many meshes in it that are loaded dynamically and i'm also trying to keep things as optimal as possible. The best i've managed to do is get the highlighted avatar render above everything but I need just the silhouette not the entire mesh. Thus far, based on some googling and forum browsing ( Babylonjs outline through walls & ) I've figured out how to highlight the outline of objects using Babylon.HighlighLayer and I know that i can render objects above others via RenderingGroups but I can't seem to figure out how to use them in conjunction to create the effect I want. This is very akin to effects used in many other video games (see example below). What I want to do is highlight the outline of these avatars ONLY when they are occluded by any other object, meaning that when they are not occluded they look normal with no highlight but when behind an object their highlighted silhouette can be seen by others (including yourself as you can see your own avatar). Right now my game consists of a scene compromising of multiple meshes with multiple users represented as avatars (created from basic circle geometry for the moment) loaded into an environment. Please bear with me on this one, i'm a complete newbie with babylon as i've only every worked with THREE.js. So I'm trying to create an online game using Babylon.js but have run into a problem thats got me a little stumped so hoping someone here would be willing to help me out. 1GB free disk space or 48GB for a complete installation.Native 64‑bit support for stand‑alone and plug‑in versions.Mac OS 10.6 (latest update) or 10.7, Intel Core Duo CPU, 2GB RAM.Windows 7 (latest Service Pack, 32-/64‑bit), Intel Core Duo or AMD Athlon 64 CPU, 2GB RAM.ANALOG DREAMS combines vintage synth sounds and adds creative effects to create original and modern patches. And, life permitting, I have another read of the Wake ahead of me to read the Houyhnhnm Press edition. Art Book, 'Contemporâneos Brasileiros 1981', Galeria de Arte São Paulo. Shop our folio books selection from top sellers and makers around the world. But on my second read, of the sweet Folio Society edition, I'm really enjoying it by reading a page a week. I'm looking forward to it.įor me it's really the Wake that is a big challenge. I only buy books I'm going to read, especially if they are pricey, so my purchase of the upcoming Thornwillow means I'll be reading Ulysses again. I love books I have to puzzle out and that give me more each time I reread them. I am not a big consumer of audio books (I think I've listened to three: The Lord of the Rings, Dubliners, and Ulysses) but the ones I have heard were great and listened to after multiple reads of the books themselves. I also highly recommend listening to an audio book or reading of Ulysses. It was a deeply rewarding experience and the pinnacle of my reading life. I got a book of notes on Ulysses, and listened to Frank Delaney's podcast on Ulysses called RE:Joyce. The second time I armed myself like one would before reading Dante. I understood maybe 40% of it but LOVED that 40%. On my first reading, I was determined to go through it cover to cover as a sort of feather in my cap. It can also be enjoyed at an infinite rabbit hole level of depth that you could delve into for the rest of your days if you were inclined. It is a book that can be enjoyed on a surface level for the depth of understanding Joyce has about the nature of thought, emotion, faith, time, nationality ,and reality. If, however, you can accept that you will never understand (and it's likely that no one but Joyce himself ever would) the intentionally esoteric parts, it is the greatest thing any human has ever written. If you need to understand every aspect of a book and need a linear narrative story, you will not like it (there is a story though). >46 RickFlair: It really depends on the sort of reader you are. Please check your state regulations to make sure whether smoke lights are street-legal. Most lights come with detailed instructions to guide you through the installation. Spyder tail lights are designed to exactly replace your factory lights, however some electrical wiring work may be required. All wiring is tested to make sure the light is completely functional, and the housing is sealed with high quality silicone to ensure that no moisture can become trapped inside. This may not sound like a lot of time, but it may only be a split second that’s needed for the driver behind you to see your stop lights and react to avoid an accident.Įvery Spyder tail light undergoes a rigorous testing and quality control process before it leaves the factory. But one feature makes LEDs particularly appropriate for tail light/stop light use: LEDs rise to their full intensity approximately 200 milliseconds faster than incandescent bulbs. The pattern of the LEDs in these lights is unique, so your ride will command attention wherever you go. The light they produce is much brighter and cleaner, much more attractive than incandescent light. They’re extremely durable, with an average lifespan of 50,000-336,000 hours, which means they’ll probably outlast the rest of your vehicle. Their compact size makes it easy to arrange them in distinctive patterns, as seen on many late model luxury cars. LED lights are the most advanced form of lighting. These lights include the style, superior illumination and added safety that you can only get from LED lights. The designers at Spyder create their lights for each specific make and model, ensuring that the styling will be much more interesting than what the factory imagined but at the same time complement your vehicle’s fine lines. For a small amount of cash, time and effort these lights will transform the back of your chariot and give it a look that’s far from what rolled off the assembly line. These LED tail lights from Spyder are a great way to start your vehicle on the path to exclusivity. Installation is a breeze! Any average driver who knows how to handle a screwdriver can do it.If you have a hard time picking out your car or truck from all the like models in the parking lot, maybe it’s time to give your ride a personal touch, an identity that makes it uniquely yours. If you’re worried about the replacement process – don’t be. They are much brighter, last much longer, and are a great deal more durable that the original factory-made incandescent bulbs. If a special bulb arrangement isn’t a necessity for you, and if all you really need are exceptionally luminescent and high quality tail lights, the GMC Canyon LED lights are for you. Especially, in comparison to the boring red plastic lenses most vehicles are equipped with. The huge variety of potential combinations of colors, shapes, and bulb arrangements that the Euro tail lights provide, will give your GMC Canyon a truly dazzling look. The GMC Canyon Euro tail lights will, without a doubt, make a lasting impression. So, it’s up to you to make the best of those few seconds and give the other drivers something to admire and talk about. While waiting at the traffic light, or while passing each other on the high way, drivers always check out each other’s vehicles. This is especially true on the road because a first impression is usually all you will ever get. Although some may deny it, appearances matter. |
